Begin by deciding what day you will be arriving. Most people will fly in Saturday, October 10, 2009 (or on Friday if they want to spend Saturday sightseeing in Los Angeles), and most will fly home Wednesday afternoon, October 14, 2009, after the closing General Session.

NAHC is working with SuperShuttle to offer all NAHC attendees a discount on their transportation to their hotel. Please visit SuperShuttle Online and make your reservation. The group discount code (AVHK8) is pre-filled for you under the ‘Book a Ride” box on the left of the screen. SuperShuttle is an on demand airport shuttle that provides service 24 hours a day to/from LAX and during all operational hours at Burbank Airport. The largest transportation company in Southern California, with a fleet of over 300 vans in the LA and Orange County area to service our guests. Super Shuttle does not operate on a scheduled basis; they are there when you need them...no matter what time the desired pick up or flight time!

Airlines

Make your airline reservations. Most major carriers fly into Los Angeles International Airport. Below is contact information for major airlines. However some attendees should check fares, they might benefit by flying into Bob Hope Burbank Airport to the north of the city and taking a Super Shuttle to the downtown area.

Long Beach Airport to the South of the City Center is particularly advantageous to those flying from the East Coast because it is the home of Jet Blue Airlines. Enter in the code NAHC09 when making a reservation and save!

1. Question: What is the theme for the NAHC 28th Annual Meeting & Exposition in Los Angeles?

Answer: Bringing the Stars into Alignment: Hollywood Salutes Home Care and Hospice.

2. Question: When and where is the NAHC 28th Annual Meeting & Exposition going to take place?

Answer: In Los Angeles October 10-14, 2009, at the Los Angeles Convention Center located at 1201 South Figueroa Street in downtown Los Angeles.

3. Question: What hotels have been reserved for the meeting?

Answer: Hotels for this meeting include the Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites, Sheraton Los Angeles Downtown Hotel, Wilshire Grand, and Holiday Inn Los Angeles City Center.

4. Question: How do I make my hotel arrangements?

Answer: Make discounted hotel reservations online through The Housing Connection.  This website can be used to make discounted hotel reservations or to change existing reservations. In addition, reservations can be made by phone at (877) 505-0682 or by email at thc@housingregistration.com. Attendees can fax The Housing Connection at (801) 355-0250 or mail them at 175 S. West Temple, Suite 140, Salt Lake City, UT 84101. All reservations require a one night deposit (plus sales tax) payable by credit card. Attendees may also download the discounted housing form. Please include a valid email address to receive a reservation confirmation.

5. Question: Why should I register early?  

Answer: Special savings. The earlier a person registers, the more they SAVE! Members always receive a discount as compared to non-members. Non-members who register on-site will pay the highest rates. Special savings are also available for those that register multiple attendees.  

6. Question: Why book at NAHC’s Hotels?  

Answer: Each year, NAHC works hard to keep your overall conference costs as low as possible. NAHC uses its group purchasing power to negotiate with the official Annual Meeting hotels in Los Angeles. NAHC’s contracts protect members by including protective clauses to prevent them being shut out from a hotel, as well as discounted hotel room rates.  

7. Question: How do I get from the airport to the hotel?  

Answer: The Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is located 18 miles from downtown Los Angeles. Among the modes of transportation available at LAX are airport bus service, door-to-door shuttle van service, local bus lines, light rail, rental cars, and taxicabs. A free, frequent shuttle bus also connects LAX with METRO’s Green Line Light Rail. Another option is the LAX FlyAway bus service that provides frequent nonstop transportation between LAX and Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.  

8. Question: How do I register for the NAHC 28th Annual Meeting & Exposition?  

Answer: You may register online, or you may complete the registration form and mail it to NAHC, 228 7th Street, SE, Washington, D.C. 20003; or fax it to: (202) 547-3660.  

9. Question: Who are the general session speakers presenting at the meeting?  

Answer: We work all year to find just the right combination of general session speakers to compliment our Annual Meeting. Although not finalized, some of our invited guests are: Brian Theiss, Founder, Theiss Institute of Health & Wellness, and Billy Yamaguchi, Hair Stylist to the Stars.  

10. Question: How many educational programs will be offered?  

Answer: Over the four-day conference, more than 120 educational sessions will be offered. Attendees will have 15 choices in each of eight separate time blocks, the first of which begins at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, October 11, 2009, and the last of which begins at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2009. Each of these sessions will be 90 minutes long. A total of 180 hours of the highest quality educational programming will be offered. When the CEO Leadership School and general sessions are added to the list, the total is some 210 hours of educational programming.  

11. Question: How many continuing education credits (CEs) will be offered?  

Answer: NAHC is offering 15 contact hours for nursing CE’s, and 11 contact hours for accoutant CPE’s.  

12. Question: What subject areas will be covered in these educational sessions?  

Answer: Subjects covered relate to the major topic areas and include chronic disease management; clinical services; therapy and the interdisciplinary team; hospice issues and new regulations; palliative care in home care; marketing and business development; private pay issues; quality outcomes and best practices; telehealth and technology from electronic medical record to clinical use with cardiac patients in the home; business and financial management; leadership, issues; human resources & recruitment, retention and training issues; timely legal & regulatory issues impacting home health and hospice.  

13. Question: Which employees or professionals should attend this meeting?  

Answer: There will be specific educational and networking opportunities for various levels of staff. These include CEO/Executive Director, CFO/Director of Finance, Clinical Director/Director of Nursing, Compliance/Legal Officer, HR Director, PR and Communications Director, Director of Operations, IT Director, Hospice Director, Medical Director, Director of Private Pay, and Marketing/Business Development Director, as well as individual RNs, Therapists, and Home Care Aides.  

14. Question: What are the hours of the NAHC Home Care & Hospice Exposition?  

Answer: The Exposition Hall will be open Sunday, October 11, from 5 to 7:30 p.m.; Monday, October 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; and Tuesday, October 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Continental breakfast will be served from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday and Tuesday. Lunch will be served in the Exposition Hall from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. both Monday and Tuesday.  

15. Question: What can I expect at the NAHC Home Care & Hospice Exposition?  

Answer: The NAHC Home Care & Hospice Exposition is the largest collection of goods, services, and technology supporting the hospice and home care industry in the world. Many people attend the conference primarily to visit the Exposition Hall. It offers the opportunity to see the latest cutting-edge products on the market at some 600 booths that include everything from computer software, to uniforms and medical supplies.  

16. Question: Is there any free time built into the program?  

Answer: Saturday, October 10, 2009 has been set aside for attendees to enjoy the greater Los Angeles area or to take day trips to nearby destinations.  

17. Question: Are there any fun things to do in the greater Los Angeles area?  

Answer: Yes. Answer: You bet! The restaurants in the Los Angeles area are some of the best in the country. 21. Question: What networking or social events are planned for the NAHC 28th Annual Meeting & Exposition?  

Answer: There will be a grand opening reception of the NAHC Exposition Hall Sunday from 5 to 7:30 p.m.; the ChildHelp Benefit Concert Monday from 7 to 11 p.m. the Caring Awards Benefit Dinner & Gala Tuesday from 6 to 8:30 p.m.; and the NAHC After Party at the Conga Room Tuesday from 9 p.m. to Midnight  

22. Question: What is the dress code for the NAHC 28th Annual Meeting & Exposition?  

Answer: Dress is business casual, which means wear whatever makes you comfortable.  

23. Questions: What kind of weather can I expect in Los Angeles in early October?  

Answer: Fabulous. The weather should be perfect with highs near 80s and lows in the 60s. If you plan to take a cruise, or spend some time on the water, you may want to bring a sweater or jacket along.  

24. Question: Why does the NAHC 28th Annual Meeting & Exposition take place each year?  

Answer: First, it provides the opportunity for networking within the home care and hospice community. Second, attendees learn the latest up-to-the minute news that is and will be affecting the industry. Third, members receive advice and strategic recommendations about recent trends. Fourth, attendees can earn most of the CEs they need to keep their nursing or accountancy license up to date. Fifth, they come to learn about the latest state-of-the art software, and other products and services at the Exposition Hall. Sixth, to enjoy the entertainment. The NAHC meeting seeks to strike a balance between education, business advice, and fun. Finally, attendees come to be inspired and remember why they chose the difficult work of home care and hospice by hearing general session and CEO Leadership School speakers, who never fail to inspire attendees, and are generally considered the highlight of the convention.
