Registration Fee: $50 members; $75 non-members
OASIS-C is the first major update of the OASIS since
it was introduced in 1999. There are significant revisions
to existing items and major changes to OASIS, including
the addition of items that measure processes of care. This program will provide
attendees with information on the new process measures and guidance on new and
revised items, including new definitions and conventions, and strategies for agencies
to consider as OASIS-C is implemented. At this time, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid
Services (CMS) plans to initiate patient assessments using OASIS-C early in 2010.
Objectives:
- Describe the rationale leading
to development of the OASIS-C;
- Identify the different components
of quality measurement and the rationale for inclusion
of process items in OASIS-C;
- Describe the process of OASIS-C
development and testing;
- Describe the findings of
OASIS-C testing;
- Identify major new components
of the OASIS-C assessment instrument;
- Identify changes needed in
agency operations with implementation of OASIS-C;
- Outline the major implications
of the new assessment instrument for quality measurement
and reporting; and

quality improvement using OASIS-C.

Two: Expanding Hospice – Taking
Advantage of Opportunities Across the Continuum
Sunday, October 11, 2009 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. – Included
in Registration Fee
2009 is a year of great opportunity for hospice programs, with a wide array of healthcare
reform efforts that should improve access to and utilization of hospice services.
However, hospices cannot wait to be “invited” to participate. Hospices
must proactively educate themselves about healthcare quality and operational improvement
efforts across the continuum. They must build relationships with home health care
providers, nursing homes, hospitals, physician practices, and others whose referrals
are critical to the growth in access to hospice services. Further, hospices must
prepare themselves for an increasingly integrated system of data capture, reporting,
and reimbursement. In this special pre-conference session, we will review the emerging
opportunities across the healthcare system

high quality research on home and community-based health
care services, as well as encouraging the dissemination
of findings to practitioners, researchers, policy makers,
payors and the general public.
One of the first goals of the NHHRC for 2009 was to develop
a poster presentation session at the NAHC Annual Meeting
