Pre-conference Two: Expanding Hospice – Taking Advantage of Opportunities Across the Continuum

Sunday, October 11, 2009 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. – Included in Registration Fee

2009 is a year of great opportunity for hospice programs, with a wide array of healthcare reform efforts that should improve access to and utilization of hospice services. However, hospices cannot wait to be “invited” to participate. Hospices must proactively educate themselves about healthcare quality and operational improvement efforts across the continuum. They must build relationships with home health care providers, nursing homes, hospitals, physician practices, and others whose referrals are critical to the growth in access to hospice services. Further, hospices must prepare themselves for an increasingly integrated system of data capture, reporting, and reimbursement. In this special pre-conference session, we will review the emerging opportunities across the healthcare system

Faculty: Martha Tecca, Founder and Principal, M&M Strategies, Lyme, N.H.; additional faculty TBA.

Course Level: Advanced, Nursing 4.5 CEs; Accounting 5.0 CPEs (NASBA/RE).

Pre-requisite: Working knowledge and experience in Medicare hospice.

The National Association for Home Care & Hospice recently established the National Home Health & Hospice Research Council (NHHRC). The NHHRC is focused on supporting high quality research on home and community-based health care services, as well as encouraging the dissemination of findings to practitioners, researchers, policy makers, payors and the general public.

One of the first goals of the NHHRC for 2009 was to develop a poster presentation session at the NAHC Annual Meeting in Los Angeles.
